Alessandra Montagner

“Originally from the confines of Southern Brazil, I am a theatre practitioner who is now based in the UK. I started dancing when I was about 11 years old and immersed myself into that to a degree that made me want something else. I just finished my MA in Dance Theatre: The Body in Performance (to be obtained in December 2012) from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (London – UK). Through this Masters project I arrived at the exploration of theatricality as a concept (as a medium in-between) in the relationship between the theatrical stage and the spectator. As a consequence of this interest, I devised (in collaboration with the performers Rhys Cook and Dominique Vannod) what was called On Red and Butterflies, a theatre work which talks through affective alterity between the various individuals of the theatrical encounter. Through my practice, I have reaffirmed my belief in the theatre (and art generally) as a tool for personal and communal transformation.”
